RuneScape is a very old online game, but it managed to have its highest player membership ever in 2019. RuneScape launched back in 2001. It has both a subscription and free-to-play plan. Developer Jagex notes that the game has over 1.1 million subscribers, while “many millions more” play the free version.
Old School RuneScape reached its highest ever number of daily active players in 2019, thanks in large part to the mobile version which launched the year before. The mobile version has now been installed over 8 million times. 2019 also marked an “all-time membership high” for the series – though every day is presumably a new all-time membership high, unless old accounts keep getting deleted.
An exact number isn’t offered, but Jagex also notes that Old School RuneScape, which released in 2013 but only arrived in early access on mobile in 2018, set a new record for daily active users during 2019 as well. If you want to know where is the safest place to buy Runescape Gold, I think z2u.com is your best choice, after all, the site has been officially certified,so it's very safe.
RuneScape reaches its 19th birthday on January 4th 2020 and Jagex will be preparing for the game’s 20th anniversary in 2021. It’s not all positive, however. Last year, RuneScape came under fire in the UK Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s (DCMS) inquiry into ‘immersive and addictive technologies’. Jagex said it makes a whopping third of its revenue from 10% of its players who spend money on microtransactions.
In a press release, Jagex leadership say RuneScape’s success is leading the company towards its most successful year to date, momentum assisted by both the game’s core community and the addition of numerous new hires, including senior leadership, during 2019.
